Stretching from the Cape Cod Canal in the north to the upper cost of Rhode Island to the south, from the Elizabeth Islands to the east to Massachusetts' southern coast in the west, Buzzards Bay is a piece of ocean that has been in our family's hearts for generations. Little did I know, spending my summers in Mattapoisett with my grandparents, that my future wife Laura was spending her summers across Buzzards Bay on Cuttyhunk Island with HER grandparents. The bay was always there for both of us from as soon as we could remember - a magical place intertwined with both our families.
Now, our family is living in Durham, North Carolina, and we're making sure our kids are growing up having some of the same moments we had. To them, Buzzards Bay is - still - a magical place for swimming and sailing, full of fish and wildlife, and clean and healthy for everyone to enjoy. But maintaining the Bay takes effort from all of us, whether we're only here for part of the year, or all year round. So it seems fitting that, for the 25th Buzzards Bay swim, our daughter Rosie and I are headed north to take up that challenge. We hope that you'll join in!
You can help preserve Buzzards Bay's land, water, shores, and beaches by donating to our upcoming swim on Saturday, June 30. We’ll be joining hundreds of others in swimming 1.2 miles across outer New Bedford Harbor, to raise funds to restore and protect clean water in Buzzards Bay. One small contribution to back our efforts in the water will go towards preserving the Bay and the places that surround and nurture it, just like the Bay nurtures all of the people who are home around it.
With our swim, Swim DRM is hoping to raise at least $1,000 for the Buzzards Bay Coalition. These funds will go directly to the Coalition's conservation, research, advocacy, and education work. My family has seen the impact the Coalition has had in and around the bay for many years, and we're very lucky to be able to put our swimming to work and help the Coalition with their work this year. Your donation will truly make a difference for future generations! So for our family, and for all of the families that love the Bay, we'll be shoving off early and headed across on the 30th.
Thank you for your support! SAVE BUZZARDS BAY!

P.S. You join us at the Swim on June 30 from 7-10am — we'll be on the water then, and there's a breakfast party at Fort Phoenix State Park in Fairhaven after we're all out of the water. I hope we'll see you there!
