Volunteer at the Buzzards Bay Swim
Not a swimmer but still want to get involved with the Buzzards Bay Swim? Volunteer your time at the Swim and help us run a safe, fun event for everybody! This year, approximately 80 volunteers assist with setup, check-ins, food service, safety squads, and more.

Before the Swim
We need many volunteers before the day of the Swim to help us prepare for the event. Volunteer tasks include:
- Distributing flyers, postcards, and other Swim publicity materials
- Setting up the finish line chute at Fort Phoenix
- Assembling swimmer packets
The Day of the Swim
On the day of the Swim, we need approximately 80 volunteers to help at the start line and the finish line.
Start Line
We need approximately 50 volunteers at the start line in New Bedford. Start line volunteer tasks include:
- Set up/break down
- Swimmer check-in
- Distribution of swim caps and timing chips
- Parking
- Kayak inspection
- People flow
- Photographers
- Kayakers for the Safety Squad
- Kayakers to escort swimmers
- Lifeguards, registered nurses, EMTs
Finish Line
We need approximately 30 volunteers at the finish line at Fort Phoenix State Reservation in Fairhaven. Finish line volunteer tasks include:
- Set up/break down
- Staffing of hospitality tents
- Parking
- People flow
- Photographers
- Lifeguards, registered nurses, EMTs
