Not a cyclist but still want to get involved with the Buzzards Bay Watershed Ride? Volunteer your time on October 1 and help us run a safe, fun event for everybody. Approximately 125 volunteers assist with setup, check-ins, food service, on-the-road support, and more. Every year, riders say that volunteers make all the difference in helping the event to run smoothly and enjoyably.

Before the Watershed Ride

We need many volunteers before the day of the Watershed Ride to help us prepare for the event. Volunteer tasks include:

  • Distributing flyers, postcards, and other Watershed Ride publicity materials
  • Marking the route with signs and arrows
  • Assembling rider packets
  • Preparing food and supplies to bring to the start lines and finish line

The Day of the Watershed Ride

On the day of the Watershed Ride, about 125 volunteers help at the start lines, along the route, and at the finish line.

Start Lines

Start line volunteer tasks include:

  • Set up/break down
  • Rider check-in
  • Parking
  • People flow
  • Bike mechanics

On the Road/Water Stops

Volunteers are posted at various locations along the entire Watershed Ride route. These on-the-road volunteers have the critical job of ensuring riders stay on the course and providing encouragement.

At water stops in New Bedford and Bourne, volunteers pass out water and snacks and cheer on riders.

Lunch Stop

Lunch stop volunteer tasks include:

  • Set up/break down
  • Rider check-in
  • Lunch service
  • Parking
  • People flow
  • Photographers
  • Registered nurses and EMTs
  • Bike mechanics

Finish Line

Finish line volunteer tasks include:

  • Set up/break down
  • Staffing of hospitality tents
  • Merchandise sales
  • Parking
  • People flow
  • Massage therapists
  • Photographers
  • Registered nurses and EMTs
